Here's some of our new batch of spring chicks. The kids and I picked them out at the Stevi feed and farm a couple weeks ago. We have a couple new breeds. We were only getting a "few" but that ended up being a dozen. I promised Terran this is it. They got crowded in this box in the kitchen and are now in a new home in the shed with the other 7 hens, but sectioned off in their own area with heat lamps. They are much happier. Terran did the designing and building on that.
We had to put 2 of the older birds down this week. (There was 9 of them). It ended up being very sad, especially for Trey and Meghan. These ones were definitely pets so we didn't eat them, they are buried in the garden with a headstone Trey made. "Patty" was a hen who was so sweet, but injured her legs we think, and was getting worse so she couldn't get around. And "Sugar" (an ironic name for our onry rooster) somehow got his toes cut off. He wasn't doing well either, so they're in chicken heaven now. Trey & Meg are very tender hearted towards animals I realized. (More so than I was) It was a tough day.

So sad about your chickens, well sad that your kids were sad. We miss you and wish we could come play on your farm
